Arthur Bachmann

Arthur Bachmann (born January 10, 1922 in Winterthur ; † November 5, 1983 there ; entitled to live in Winterthur and Aristau ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

The son of a Zurich SP canton councilor graduated from high school in 1940 and worked as a primary school teacher in 1941 and as a student trainee from 1943 to 1948 . During this time he completed a law degree in Zurich and received his doctorate in 1948. iur. From 1949 to 1953 he worked in various positions in the judiciary and school system. Bachmann worked as a district attorney in Winterthur from 1953 to 1960 before working as a public prosecutor and substitute judge at the higher court until 1967 .

As a representative of the SP, Bachmann was elected to the Winterthur municipal council in 1950 , before he sat on the Zurich cantonal council from 1955 to 1963 . For a legislature (1963-1967) the Winterthur sat in the National Council . During this time he was also President of the Association of the Zurich Canton Police . In 1966 he ran unsuccessfully - he was clearly defeated by Urs Widmer - for the city council in Winterthur. However, in 1967 he was elected to the Zurich Government Council , where he headed the Internal Affairs and Justice Department. He also presided over the government council in 1972 and 1978. He resigned in 1983 and died that same year.

Bachmann was married and a major in the Swiss Army . From 1970 he was a member of the board of directors of Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke AG and from 1977 held the office of Vice President.
