Arthur Kahane
Arthur Kahane (born May 2, 1872 in Vienna , † October 7, 1932 in Berlin ) was a poet, novelist, essayist and dramaturge at the Berlin German Theater from 1905 to 1932 . He was a friend and close collaborator of Max Reinhardt .
Life
Kahane studied literature and philosophy. While still a student, he broke away from the Jewish religious community. From 1918 to 1920 he edited the monthly for literature and theater Das Junge Deutschland . He replaced Paul Kornfeld after the second issue of this magazine had appeared. Together with Felix Hollaender he edited the papers of the German theater .
The first son was the Romanist and linguist Henry Kahane , the second the archaeologist Peter P. Kahane , the third the Israeli architect Ariel Kahane (1907-1986).
Arthur Kahane died of pneumonia on October 7, 1932 at the age of 60 in Berlin . On October 11, 1932, numerous actors, writers and other representatives of Berlin's cultural life took part in the funeral service and burial at the Heerstraße cemetery in today's Berlin-Westend district (grave location: 10-7). Among others, Eduard von Winterstein , Friedrich Kayssler and Gertrud Eysoldt spoke words of remembrance for the deceased.
