Arthur Carl Theodor Rhode (born December 13, 1868 in Podzamcze , Posen Province (South Posen), † June 23, 1967 in Woltorf ) was a German Protestant theologian and historian .

Rhode, a son of the police district commissioner Heinrich Rhode (1836–1886), studied Protestant theology after graduating from high school in Ostrowo in Breslau . He completed his vicariate in the economically weak southern part of the church province of Posen, which belongs to Prussia . As a pastor in Ostrowo, he founded a magazine ( Posener Heimatgrüsse ) in 1903 and an aid organization for emigrants and returnees of German origin in 1905. In 1916 he became superintendent of the Schildberg church district . In 1919 he was arrested and interned several times by the Polish authorities. Nevertheless, he stayed in the Polish Republic and in October 1920 took over a pastor's office at the Christ Church in Poznan, combined with the office of superintendent of the parish of Poznan I. From 1921, he also lectured on the Old Testament and church history at the Theological School in Poznan , a training center of the Uniate Evangelical Church in Poland, which was founded after the separation from Prussia in 1920 . From 1922 to 1940 he published the monthly Posener Evangelisches Kirchenblatt . As a representative of the German minority in the Posener Land, Rhode was arrested again by the Polish authorities in September 1939. In 1942 he retired, in 1945 he fled to Germany .

The theological faculty of the University of Tübingen awarded Rhode an honorary doctorate in 1931 . On his 90th birthday he was honored by a festschrift.

The historian Gotthold Rhode was his son.
