Artjom Jakowlewitsch Gussew ( Russian Артём Яковлевич Гусев ; born April 5, 1982 in Reftinski , Sverdlovsk Oblast , former Soviet Union ) is a Russian biathlete .

Artem Gusev trained from 1998 in Школа высшего спортивного мастерства (ШВСМ-2) (Sport University) in Khanty-Mansiysk and moved in 2009 to the local Центр спортивной подготовки сборных команд Югры (ЦСПСКЮ) (Sport and Traingszentrum Team Yugra) . He won the individual silver medal at the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Ridanna and finished fifth in the relay. In the same year he started in Kontiolahti also at the Junior European Championships and won the relay title there. There were also fifth places in individual and pursuit as well as seventh place in the sprint.

The next international assignments followed in 2002 and 2004 at the IBU Grand Prix in Khanty-Mansiysk , where Gusev was in the 20s category. The Russian made his debut in the European Biathlon Cup in 2006 in Obertilliach , where he finished 70th in a sprint. Shortly afterwards he won first points in the same place as 18th.

However, he was unable to establish himself in a strong Russian team at first, so that he was only used internationally in 2008 as part of the European Championships in Nové Město . After Gussew finished seventh in the individual, he won the sprint title ahead of Stian Eckhoff , whom he distanced by six tenths of a second, and Michal Šlesingr . In the subsequent pursuit race, he won the silver medal behind Sergei Konovalov by prevailing in the final sprint against his compatriot Maxim Maximow .
