Artur Wiswedel

Artur Wiswedel (born June 30, 1913 in Braunschweig ; † March 29, 1989 ibid) was a German building contractor and Braunschweig local politician. He is one of Braunschweig's honorary citizens .

Life

Studying business administration and law at the universities of Frankfurt am Main and Berlin was followed by a doctorate to become a Dr. jur. Wiswedel was seriously wounded in Hungary in December 1944 during World War II . After the war ended, he joined his father's construction company. In 1953 he became a member of the FDP. He was a member of the Braunschweig City Council from 1961 to 1976 and from 1981 to 1988. From 1974 to 1976 he was first mayor. He made great contributions to the reconstruction of several historical buildings in his hometown. In 1974 he had the Neustadtrathaus rebuilt , the Jakobskapelle in 1980 and the Ölper Tower in 1982 . In 1986 he had the Stobwasserhaus restored. On March 3, 1989, he was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Braunschweig for his commitment. Wiswedel died a few weeks later in Braunschweig.
