Ariana ( Arabic أريانة, DMG Aryāna ) is a city in northern Tunisia , the urban area of which is part of the agglomeration of the Tunisian capital Tunis . It is the capital of the Ariana governorate of the same name and is inhabited by approximately 115,000 people.
geography
Ariana is located in northern Tunisia not far from the Mediterranean . The city is separated from the Gulf of Tunis by the shallow Sebkha Ariana salt lake .
history
The origins go back to the Zirid dynasty . The city got its current name in the 5th century AD during the rule of the Vandals in North Africa.
