Arzu Toker

Arzu Toker (* 1952 in Halfeti , Turkey ) is a German-speaking writer , journalist , publicist and narrator living in Cologne .

Life

In Turkey, Arzu Toker first worked as a seamstress. In 1974 she emigrated to Germany alone.

Today she works for print media and radio. She is considered an expert on issues that affect the Islamic and Western world. For twelve years, from 1985 to 1997, she was a member of the WDR Broadcasting Council as a foreigner representative .

In 1997 Toker and Niki Eideneier received the Abdi İpekçi Prize for Peace and Friendship for the publication of the “Greek-German-Turkish reader ” Kalimerhaba (1992) .

Less known as a narrator, she also appeared on a larger scale, such as at the 5th Diyalog TheaterFest with The Euphrates flows into the Spree (2000), with readings again and again. Arzu Toker has initiated and directed various theater projects. In 2007 she developed a play at several schools together with young people. In January 2007, Toker was a founding member of the Central Council of Ex-Muslims Association . In the board elections, Mina Ahadi ran as chairwoman and Arzu Toker as deputy.
