The Ascherbach is an approx. 4 km long left tributary of the Lichte in the Thuringian Slate Mountains and in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park .

Surname

The name Ascherbach is undoubtedly traced back to the stems of Asche and Bach . In the earliest documentary mentions, which go back to 1386, today's Ascherbach, however, was named Glaseseiff . This medieval naming, like the place names Glanzviertel and Waschdorf near the water, are indications that light gold mining and gold washing were carried out in the catchment area .

geography

course

The Ascherbach rises in the Schmalenbuche district of the city of Neuhaus am Rennweg in the immediate vicinity of the Rennsteig , the watershed between Thuringia and Franconia .

On its course to the northeast, the brook flows through the town of Schmalenbuche, turns to the east and follows the Neuhauser Grund to Ascherbach , whose extreme end is called the Glanzviertel . There it finally flows into the light .
