description

Asperula elonea grows as one at the base of woody shrub and reaches stature heights of 20 to 45 centimeters. The numerous upright or ascending, rod-shaped, branched stems are hairless and square with sharp, protruding corners. The early falling, ascending leaves are four or less often six in whorls and are much shorter than the internodes . The upper leaves are narrowly linear and 12-20 millimeters long, the lower oblong-elliptical and 7 to 20 millimeters long. The edge of the leaf blade is clearly rolled down and completely hairless.

The zymous inflorescence is a loose, elongated thyrsus with numerous one to two-flowered, terminal and lateral sham umbels . The opposite bracts are significantly longer than the fruits and, like the 3.5 to 4 millimeter long pre-leaves, lanceolate and ciliate. The sitting flowers have a 6–7 millimeter measuring, funnel-shaped, reddish-brown to brownish-purple colored crown . It consists of a 4.5 to 5 millimeter long corolla tube and 1.5 to 2 millimeters long, triangular-lanceolate corolla lobes, the hood-shaped tip of which is provided with a 1.5 to 1.7 millimeter long, inwardly folded, triangular-thread-shaped appendage . The 1.5 to 1.7 millimeter long, ellipsoidally shaped anthers are blackish in color and do not protrude from the corolla tube. The pen , 2 to 2.5 millimeters long, has two columns from the bottom. The scars are elongated club-shaped. The 2 to 3 millimeter long fissure fruits are greenish-reddish in color.

The flowering period extends from the beginning of May to the end of July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
