Aspres

The Aspres are a Mediterranean low mountain range in France. They are located in the Pyrénées-Orientales department . Physically and geographically, the Aspres are the thermo- Mediterranean low mountain range of the Canigou massif.

The Aspres are located between the Roussillon , Vallespir and Conflent plains . The Aspres have a strong relief: the highest point is at approx. 1200 m, the lowest at 100 m.

The Aspres are very wooded. The vegetation is dominated by extensive cork oak forests . The Aspres were and still are a major center of French cork oak production.

The main town is Thuir (Tuïr in Catalan ).
