Ataköy (formerly: Kızıldere ) is a small town in the Almus district of the Turkish province of Tokat . Ataköy is about 10 km north of the district town at 1200 m above sea level. The village is near the Almus dam . In 2011 Ataköy had 1,866 inhabitants.

The previous place name was Kızıldere. The renaming took place in 1968. The village originally belonged to the district of Niksar , but was later added to the current district of Almus . In 1998 the village received Belediye status .

The village became known throughout Turkey through the death of Mahir Çayan and his comrades, who holed up here with three kidnapping victims in 1972. After being caught by Turkish security forces, ten kidnappers and the three foreign kidnapping victims except for Ertuğrul Kürkçü died.
