Atbaschy (Kyrgyz: Ат-Башы) is a village in the south of the Naryn region of the Central Asian Republic of Kyrgyzstan . It is the administrative seat of the Atbaschy Rajon ( district ) , which borders the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China in the south . The place has the COATE number 41704220812000, the rural community consisting only of this place ("aiyl okrug") has the number 41704220812010.

The village

Atbaschy is located around 35 km southwest of the city of Naryn , the administrative center of the Naryn region, on the national road EM-07 (formerly Soviet A365), which leads from Naryn to the 3752 m high Torugart Pass and over the border there to Kashgar in Xinjiang, and is the last significant settlement in Kyrgyzstan before the Chinese border, which is around 150 km (road kilometers) away. The place has 13,690 inhabitants and, as by far the largest place in the remote Rajons, has several general education schools, a vocational school, a hospital, a pharmacy, a post office, a house of culture, restaurants, snack bars, sports facilities, small shops and a barracks Border police.

geography

Atbaschy is located at an altitude of 2060  m in the Atbaschy basin between the mountain ranges of the Karatau in the north and the Atbaschy mountains in the south on the northern, orographically right bank of the Atbaschy , a left tributary of the Naryn, which comes from the east and turns here to the north . On the opposite bank the Karakojun flows into the Atbaschy.
