Athanasius Rethna Swamy Swamiadian
Athanasius Rethna Swamy Swamiadian (born February 10, 1961 in Parampukkarai , Tamil Nadu , India ) is an Indian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Ahmedabad .
Life
Athanasius Rethna Swamy Swamiadian studied at the St. Charles Seminary in Nagpur and received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Ahmedabad on March 29, 1989 .
After a short chaplaincy in Sanand, he was rector of the boys' seminary in Ahmedabad and head of a high school in Chavdapura. From 1994 to 1998 he studied in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University , where he obtained a degree in clinical psychology . After his return he was first rector of the interdiocesan seminary in Ahmedabad and from 2002 rector of the boys' seminary there. Since 2012 he has been the rector of Vianney Vihar's interdiocesan seminary and lecturer at the Gujarat Vidya Deep regional seminar in Baroda , where he had been spiritual since 2002 . He was also a member of the Council of Priests and the College of Consultors of the Diocese of Ahmedabad.
On January 29, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Ahmedabad. He received his episcopal ordination on April 14th of the same year.
