The ship was lengthened twice: in 1960 it was extended from an original length of 32 m to an initial 49.80 m, then in 1964 to 52.86 m. The ship was very popular with the Heligoland, as it was able to cope with the sometimes severe weather conditions and, in particular, reliably maintained the winter connections.
In 1970 the ship was chartered to the shipping company Hansa-Linie for butter cruises on the Baltic Sea between Kappeln and Sønderborg in Denmark . In 1972 the ship was sold to OW Rasmussen in Sønderborg and brought under the Panamanian flag as Atlantis II . It was also used by Hansa-Linie.
In 1996 the shipping company Hansa-Linie went bankrupt. The ship was laid up in Usedom and finally towed to the port of Netzelkow . There the ship sank in 1998 and was salvaged in 2000. In August 2012 it sank again there. In mid-April 2013, the ship was recovered on behalf of the Stralsund Waterways and Shipping Authority and then brought to the Polish city of Szczecin for scrapping .
