location

As the part of the name “Brunn” suggests, the mill is located on a strong spring stream on the left edge of the Altmühl valley between the Schernfeld bridge to Obereichstätt and Breitenfurt . A small residential bridge, over which the Altmühltal-Radwanderweg runs, creates the connection to the state road 2230 with an adjoining asphalt path.

history

The hamlet is probably named after an atto. On the other hand, the hamlet was also known as Altenbrunnmühle. In 1261 the local nobleman Heinrich von Hofstetten donated an Attenbrunn field to the Rebdorf monastery . In the 14th century there is evidence of a grinding mill powered by a spring. In 1466 or 1486 the Rebdorfer monastery property of Attenbrunn was exchanged for the Eichstätter Prince-Bishop Wilhelm von Reichenau . In the high estates administration, the mill was subordinate to the Dollnstein Care and Caste Office until it was secularized . In 1936 the mill wheel was replaced by a turbine . The mill was shut down in 1947 and the 16th century mill building was demolished in 1967. Today a trout farm is operated here.

The Attenbrunnmühle belonged to the municipality of Breitenfurt until it was incorporated into the Dollnstein market together with it in the regional reform on January 1, 1972. In 2009, the Dollnstein community decided to mark the hamlet with a hamlet sign.

Chapels

The chapel dedicated to St. Walburga is a new building from 1973. On the connecting path to the Schernfelder Bridge there is a corridor chapel on the left in a row of fruit trees.
