location

The hamlet around the former iron hammer works is located in the Altmühltal Nature Park , divided in two on the Altmühl and on the Dollnstein- Treuchtlingen railway line on the southern and northern edge of the Altmühltal. From Dollnstein, the place is two kilometers in a north-westerly direction.

history

The hammer mill was first mentioned in 1377. To drive the iron-processing hammers, the Altmühl was dammed by means of a weir that is still preserved today and diverted into a works canal. In 1493 a "Loenhard Weischer" is mentioned as a hammer master . In 1513 the Eichstätt prince-bishop Gabriel von Eyb sold the grinding mill to Michl Mülln from Weißenburg in Bavaria . In 1613, Prince-Bishop Johann Christoph von Westerstetten bought it back. In 1630 Georg Jäck von Altendorf near Mörnsheim became the new owner. In 1685, Prince-Bishop Marquard Schenk von Castell bought the hammer mill again and had it repaired. In 1710 the company specialized in sheet metal production .

During the secularization of 1803, the work came to the Principality of Tuscany , then to the Bavarian state or the Dukes of Leuchtenberg and finally to the Kingdom of Bavaria . The Bavarian state sold the plant and the property to private individuals.

After a new hut building had been erected in 1840, the hammer mill was closed in 1882. The buildings were later used for various manufacturing purposes: as a pencil factory , a bronze factory, for the production of asbestos cardboard , as a glass grinding shop and as a wood wool and metal thread factory. Several buildings were demolished during the Altmühl regulation in 1926/28. On January 1, 1972, Eberswang , to which Hagenacker belonged, was incorporated into the Dollnstein market.

Attractions

  • The manor house still exists from the complex, a stately gable building with a limestone roof from the 17th / 18th centuries. Century with a wooden bay window facing the street, added in the second half of the 19th century.
  • The northern part of the hamlet lies under the mighty rocky slopes of the Urdonau , which are designated as a bird sanctuary . There is a year-round climbing ban.
  • The neo-Romanesque Weihersfeldkapelle with roof turret in the northern part of the hamlet dates from 1868.
  • Between Hagenacker and Eßlingen there is a 633 meter long railway tunnel, the Eßlingerberg tunnel, the stone entrance arch of which is crossed by the Altmühltal cycle path; from there you have a good view of the Hagenacker valley.

tourism

On the opposite bank of the Altmühl the district of Eichstätt has set up a tent and resting place, especially for boaters. The Altmühl height difference can be overcome here in a natural "boat slide".
