The Auensee is located west of Kissing in the Aichach-Friedberg district ( Swabia , Bavaria ).

The Auensee lies between Lech and Galgenbach . One third of the lake is designated as a nature reserve, while bathing is permitted on the remaining two thirds of the shore. The lake is used entirely for nudism , but since it is only tolerated nudism, the situation can be described as "Clothing Optional". Parking spaces, lawns and a watchtower station (on weekends) are available to visitors. The lake can be reached via the B2 or by bike via the eastern Lechdamm. Kuhsee , Weitmannsee , Ilsesee and Mandichosee are located near the Auensee (along the Lech). Two lakes with the same name are located in Augsburg-Inningen , as well as west of the Lech barrage 22 at Lochbachanstich near Königsbrunn .

As part of the “Licca Liber” project of the Donauwörth Water Management Office, the idea arose in 2014 to integrate the Auensee into the Lech renaturation. The Auensee, originally created artificially as a quarry pond, would be flown through by the Lech after the renaturation and thus no longer exist in its previous form. A bank of the quarry pond, which is now under nature protection, could be affected and swimmers would have to get used to bathing on the Lech beach from their popular swimming lake.
