Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Marktsteft)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Catholic branch church of the Lower Franconian town of Marktsteft . The church is in the east of the village on Oberhölzleinsweg. It belongs to the dean's office in Kitzingen .

history

A Christian community existed in Marktsteft early on. First of all, a church was built as a separate church for the Counts of Castell . The church was elevated to a parish church in the first half of the 14th century and is consecrated to St. Stephen . In 1534, Margrave Georg von Brandenburg-Ansbach-Kulmbach promoted the Reformation in his possessions, to which Marktsteft now also belonged. The place is predominantly evangelical-Lutheran.

It was not until the 19th century that Catholics began to settle again in Marktsteft. They were initially cared for by the Catholic priest from the Sulzfeld Sebastianskirche from 1857 at the latest . Since the 1960s, the congregation has been promoting the construction of its own church. The foundation stone for the new church was laid on June 17, 1963, and the Benediction was taken over on June 20, 1964 by the Sulzfeld pastor Rudolf Aurich. Since 1994 the parish of St. Ludwig in Marktbreit has taken over the care.

architecture

The church was built as a two-story building on a hill in the east of the city. The plans for the Church of the Resurrection were drawn up by the Munich architects Hans Döllgast and Irmgard Güssow. In the basement there is a hall in which community events are held. The actual church is on the ground floor. The church tower has four storeys, it was designed as a campanile some distance from the actual church. A connecting passage forms the transition between the church and the tower.

Furnishing

Inside, the equipment from the time of construction predominates. Only two figures of God the Father and Mother of God from the 18th century are older. In 1864 G. Angert created the 14 Stations of the Cross . The center of the Resurrection Church is the simple folk altar made of shell limestone. It was consecrated on June 21, 1964 by the Würzburg Auxiliary Bishop Alfons Kempf . The tabernacle and the altar cross were created by the Würzburg artist Michael Amberg. The ambo is made of wood.

A specialty of the Marktstefter church are the glass concrete altar windows . They illuminate the church interior and at the same time ensure the artistic design. The representation of the risen Christ was made by Max Spielmann from Innsbruck and installed in the 1960s. Instead of an organ, the congregation bought a harmonium from the Franz Heissler company, which was installed inside the church in 1996.
