The Augstenberg (also Augstenspitze , Rhaeto-Romanic Piz Blaisch Lunga ) is a 3230  m high mountain in the Silvretta on the border between Austria and Switzerland. The Valzifenz valley begins below the Augstenberg .

There are different information about the height of the Augstenberg: While in Austria the height of 3228  m above sea level. A. is specified, the corresponding altitude in Switzerland is 3230  m above sea level. M. Approximately 0.2 km south of the main summit, the Augstenberg a 3224.7  m above sea level. M. high secondary summit.

Word meaning

"Augsten" probably comes from the month name August ( Latin augustus ) and indicates the limited possibility of cultivating the slopes with hay or cattle , mostly only in August.

The Rhaeto-Romanic “Blaisch lunga” means a long, wide slope . Piz means point, point, prong .

Ascent

A ski route leads from the upper Jamtal over the Chalausferner to the Chalausfurka ( 3003 m above sea levelTemplate: height / unknown reference ), on which you can reach Swiss territory. From the Furka you descend about 40 to 50 meters into the wide basin south of the northern Chalausspitze and then climb the western slope of the Augstenberg to its southern or northern summit.

In the west, with good visibility, this extends to the Bernese Alps ( Aletschhorn , 175 km, Fiescherhörner , Lauteraarhorn , Schreckhorn ) and to Weissmies in Valais, 187 km away . In the south you can see the Ortler massif , and in the east you can see the Ötztal Alps in almost their entire north-south extent.
