August Billerbeck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

August Billerbeck (wrongly also August Butterbeck ; * 1778 ; † 1844 ) was a German educator. He is considered the founder of the school teachers' seminar in Salzdetfurth and belongs to an old dynasty of educators who, among other things, provided cantors and teachers in Salzdetfurth.

Life

Towards the end of the 18th century, August Billerbeck attended the school teacher seminar in Hanover for four years before the consistorial councilor and superintendent of Eldagsen, August Friedrich Brackmann , hired him to Michaelis in 1801 as sexton and school teacher in Rheden in the then Principality of Hildesheim as Teacher and cantor . In Rheden in 1802, at the instigation of the superintendent, he founded an initially private teacher training institute, in which he himself trained as a teacher. When Billerbeck moved to Salzdetfurth in 1804 - he was supposed to work there as his father's adjunctum - he also moved the continuation of the educational institution there, in which he continued to teach the junior staff. The now Prussian government was informed in 1806 by the Chamber Consistorial Commission in Hildesheim about the institution led by Billerbeck and also promised state aid. However, this was no longer paid out due to the beginning of the so-called " French era ", during which Napoleon Bonaparte's troops occupied the country. Only the Hanover government approved a subsidy from the general state fund and other taxes amounting to 260 thalers .

Due to his work, August Billerbeck is also considered the founder of the teachers' seminar in Alfeld an der Leine .

family

Through his marriage, the "Cantor August Billerbeck", who worked in Salzdetfurt, became the son-in-law of the widowed pastor Auguste Sophie Christiane Schrage, née Reichenbach from Klein Lafferde .
