August Borchard

August Borchard (born July 4, 1864 in Lemgo , † February 19, 1940 in Berlin ) was a German surgeon.

Life

Friedrich August Leopold Borchard studied medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München , the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and the Universität Jena . In 1888 he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . He began his career as an assistant in pathology at the Philipps University of Marburg . Later he was senior physician at the surgical clinic of the Albertus University in Königsberg .

From 1895 he was a senior physician at the surgical department of the Diakonisse Hospital in Poznan , before moving to Berlin as a surgeon. Here he became an associate professor in 1908 and a secret medical councilor in 1912 . During the First World War he served as an advisory surgeon with the rank of general doctor . He published his experiences and in 1922 was one of the founders of the German Society for Accident Medicine. In 1930 he was elected to the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . In 1934/35 he was President of the German Society for Trauma Surgery . He was co-editor and editor of the Archive for Clinical Surgery , the Zentralblatt für Chirurgie and the German Surgeon Calendar . He died at the age of 77 and was buried in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
