August Gottlob Eberhard

Christian August Gottlob Eberhard (born January 12, 1769 in Belzig , Electorate of Saxony ; † May 13, 1845 in Dresden , Kingdom of Saxony ) was a German poet and writer.

Eberhard studied at the University of Leipzig theology , then turned to the visual arts and, finally, since 1792 the literature, was an employee of Wilhelm Gottlieb Becker Paperback and recoveries , took over in 1807 the Rengersche bookstore in Halle and was here with August Lafontaine the monthly Salina ( Hall 1812 and 1816) and only flutter roses (Hall 1817).

After his father's death he also took over the editing of his yearbook of domestic devotion . In 1835 he turned to Hamburg. A trip to Italy prompted the work Italy as it appeared to me (Halle 1839, 2 volumes), a refutation of Gustav Nicolai's Italy as it really is . Living in Dresden since 1842, he died here on May 13, 1845. His grave is in the Inner Neustädter Friedhof in Dresden. The grave slab shows a motif from his work Hannchen und die Küchlein . He also published under the pseudonyms Ysop Lafleur, Hilarius Reimbold and Ernst Scherzer.

His poetic writings were based on the older, exemplary poets of the 18th century; in a certain sense he could still be called a pupil of Gleim . Lasting success: Hannchen und die Küchlein (Halle 1822; 25th edition Leipzig 1875), an idyll that aroused interest in young people.

On December 31, 1806, Eberhard was accepted into the Masonic lodge to the three swords in Halle, from which he resigned due to disputes.
