August Heisler

August Gustav Heisler (born September 12, 1881 in Mannheim ; † February 7, 1953 in Tübingen ) was a German country doctor .

Life

August Heisler was born the son of the jeweler Carl Friedrich Heisler. From 1898 he studied medicine in Kiel , Munich , Heidelberg and Freiburg , where he received his doctorate in 1905. In 1910 he settled in Königsfeld in the Black Forest as a country doctor and also worked in the local sanatorium.

With the help of Albert Schweitzer , he founded the “Geistige Nothilfe” foundation in 1924, which, like his medical practice, was later continued by his son Wyldbore Heisler.

Heisler was a supporter of holistic medicine . He developed the "Heisler's apple diet" and introduced coffee charcoal ("carbo Königsfeld") into medicine.

In 1952, together with Albert Schweitzer and Albert Dietrich , he was one of the first to receive the Paracelsus Medal .

Alexander Heisler , country doctor and founder of the Zelt-Musik-Festival in Freiburg is a grandson of August Heisler.
