August Jernberg
August Jernberg (born September 16, 1826 in Gävle , † June 22, 1896 in Düsseldorf ) was a Swedish painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Jernberg was initially a student of the Kungliga Konsthögskolan Stockholm and first went to Paris in 1847 , where he studied with Thomas Couture , before moving to Düsseldorf in 1851 , where he continued his education. There he took up residence at 66 Schadowstrasse and was accepted as a member of the Düsseldorf Art Academy . From 1855 until his death he was also a member of the artists' association Malkasten . He lived in Düsseldorf at 7 Rosenstrasse from 1865, had his studio on Jägerhofstrasse , then became the owner of Rosenstrasse 5, and from 1889 he lived at Duisburger Strasse 62. His son Olof Jernberg , born in Düsseldorf in 1855 , grew up in the environment of the painting school , joined the academy at the age of 15, and also became a painter.

He began with some historical genre pictures , but soon turned, with greater luck, to depicting village stories, which he treated with drastic characteristics and a lot of humor. The best include:

He was also important as a still life painter . His son Olof Jernberg (1855-1935) was known as a landscape painter of cliffs and coasts.
