Carl Jungheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Jungheim , also Karl Jungheim (born February 6, 1830 in Düsseldorf ; † June 6, 1886 there ), was a German landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Jungheim studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1847 to 1852 , with Wilhelm von Schadow and especially with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer , whose landscape class he attended. When he was young he went on study trips to Switzerland, Tyrol and Italy. On the first trip to Italy, which took place in 1856, he accompanied August Leu and Albert Flamm . At first he mainly painted mountain scenes from the Alps and the Harz Mountains, as well as forest, lake and park landscapes. His late work shows a preference for Italian landscapes, whose atmospheric painting overcomes the prosaic conception of the early work and is influenced by the painting of Oswald Achenbach . In 1858 he exhibited at the Kunstverein in Hamburg . He was represented with three paintings at the Vienna World Exhibition in 1873 . Jungheim also gave private lessons, for example for the German painters Olga Meissner and Luise Siebke , 1865 to 1875 for the Swiss painter Friedrich Rudolf von Frisching , 1872 to 1875 for the Austrian painter Marie Egner and 1872 for Bertha von Grab (1840–1907). Jungheim was a founding member of the artists' association Malkasten , to which he introduced another student, the painter Wilhelm Degode , in 1865 .

Jungheim's sister Sophie Antonia married his painter friend Joseph Niklaus Bütler in 1868 . In 1878 his son Julius Jungheim was born, also a landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School. Jungheim's wife, née Gehlen, survived her husband and became the owner of the house at Immermannstrasse 12, which the painter Adam Siepen soon moved into. Jungheim's grave is on field 10 of the Düsseldorf North Cemetery .

The painter Wilhelm Amandus Beer drew a portrait of Jungheim painting in the open air on his easel .
