August Kallert

August Kallert (born August 30, 1882 in Neustadt an der Aisch ; † June 2, 1958 in Dachau ) was a German painter.

Live and act

August Kallert, the son of a teacher in Neustadt an der Aisch, studied at the Academy in Munich . There were his teachers u. a. Johann Caspar Herterich , Otto Seitz and Angelo Jank . After several years of apprenticeship and traveling (in England, Belgium, Holland, Italy) and a longer study trip to Paris, the artist settled in Dachau in 1910. He was actively involved in founding the Dachau artists 'group, which later became the Dachau Artists' Association.

Since 1919 he exhibited regularly in the Munich Glass Palace and in 1922 joined the Munich New Secession . At the exhibition German artists and the SS in Salzburg in 1944 , he exhibited the picture “Austragbauer in Dachau”. From 1947 until his death he was chairman of the Dachau Artists' Association.

Many of his paintings are owned by the city of Dachau and various authorities. A street in Dachau commemorates the artist. Some of his works are in the Dachau painting gallery .

Artistic work

The painter was versatile in his subjects: figurative pictures, nudes, portraits, landscapes and still lifes came from his hand. Especially in the years 1910 to 1930 he dealt with the advancing movements of his time. In his work there are echoes of the New Objectivity (art) and expressive realism in the style of Max Beckmann . For his hometown Neustadt he painted its old gates and a portrait of the Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria .
