August Klostermann

August Klostermann (born May 16, 1837 in Steinhude , † February 11, 1915 in Kiel ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor .

Life

August Klostermann studied 1855–58 at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . In 1855 he joined the Erlanger and later also the Kiel and Berlin Wingolf .

From the spring of 1859 he was a teacher in Bückeburg and five years later he became a repetitionist . As such, he accepted a position as a private lecturer in theology at the Georg August University of Göttingen . In 1868 he switched to the same subject as full professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In 1885/86 and 1898/99 he was its rector . His rectorate speech on March 5, 1885 dealt with the fear of God as the main part of wisdom . The New Testament scholar, patristician and philologist Erich Klostermann was his son.
