August Neven DuMont (publisher, 1832)
August Libert Neven DuMont (born August 13, 1832 in Cologne , † September 7, 1896 in Hohwald , Alsace ) was a German publisher.
Life
August Neven was a son of the Cologne merchant and factory owner Mathieu Neven (1796–1878) and his wife Maria Elisabeth, nee. Michels (1806-1868). In 1856 he married Christine DuMont (1836–1903), daughter of the publisher Joseph DuMont . Their children together included the lawyer, politician and publisher Josef Neven DuMont , the painter August Neven Du Mont (1866–1909) and the publisher Alfred Neven DuMont .
After Joseph DuMont died in 1861, August Neven became a partner in the publishing house M. DuMont Schauberg . In 1880 his brother-in-law Ludwig DuMont died and shortly afterwards the long-term partner Ferdinand Wilhelm Schultze , who had run the publishing house together. Thereupon August Neven, who until then had been the owner of his father's company in the trade of mining products, took over the management of the publishing house. As the son-in-law and heir of the publisher Joseph DuMont and head of the M. DuMont Schauberg publishing house in 1882, he had received a royal Prussian naming association for Neven DuMont . He published the " Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger " and the " Kölnische Illustrierte Zeitung ". He was also the founder of the “ Strasbourg Post ” in 1882 . In 1889 he introduced a pension fund as a retirement pension for editors and employees of the publishing house. He died in 1896 on a mountain hike in the Vosges . After that, his sons Josef and Alfred Neven DuMont continued to run the publishing house.
Neven DuMont died in 1896 at the age of 64. He was buried in his wife's family grave in Cologne's Melaten cemetery .
