August Nicolaus Carl von Kardorff , also Augustin Nicolai Carl von Kardorff (born August 22, 1756 in Rostock , † January 19, 1820 in Glückstadt ) was a German officer in the Danish service.

Life

Kardoff was the third son of the cavalry lieutenant colonel Hans Wilhelm von Kardoff (1712–1757) on Pannekow ( Altkalen parish ). He entered the Danish military service and was appointed second lieutenant in 1774 . In 1780 he became Prime Lieutenant in the Royal Life Guard on Horseback in Copenhagen . In 1784 he was promoted to Rittmeister , in 1787 to Major and in 1791 to Lieutenant Colonel. In 1798 he became commander of the mounted guard. From 1793 he was also chamberlain . In 1803 he initially resigned from service as a colonel and devoted himself to his estate in Mecklenburg.

Napoleonic Wars

After the bombardment of Copenhagen (1807) , von Kardorff was reactivated and in 1808 appointed major general. He became brigade chief and commanding general of Zealand (including Copenhagen), Lolland , Falster and Møn . In 1812 he was given command of the Royal Danish Troop Corps of 12,000 men, King Frederick VI. for Napoleon and in 1814, after the Danish defeat in the Peace of Kiel, united with the land army, and in 1814 was appointed lieutenant general. Since 1810 he was chief of the light dragoons body regiment and for a long time commanding general of the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein.

He was married to Hedwig Sophie Margarethe von der Lühe (1771–1829) since 1789 . In 1796 his wife gave him her inheritance, Gut Böhlendorf (municipality of Lindholz ), with which he became the founder of House Böhlendorf of the Kardorff family. The couple had three sons: Friedrich Ernst (1791–1867), Danish major and gentleman auf Böhlendorf, Wilhelm Carl (1792–1827), bailiff in Cismar and father of Wilhelm von Kardorff , who was born after his death , and Carl Emil von Kardorff ( 1795–1864), bailiff in Steinburg and from 1856 the last Danish landdrost in Ratzeburg.
