from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

August Terletzki (* 1829 in Schönbrück , East Prussia ; † 1901 ) was an organ builder in Elbing in West Prussia .

Life

August Terletzki's father Joachim Terletzki, who also worked as an organ builder, was an organist in Schönbrück. After completing his apprenticeship with his father, August Terletzki and his brother Max opened the “Gebrüder Terletzki” or “Brothers August and Max Terletzki” organ building company in 1857. In 1868 they applied for a patent for a wind chest . In 1871 Max Terletzki left the company and founded his own in Königsberg in East Prussia. By then there had been around 60 works in the company.

Since 1889, the workshop built pneumatic actions in the organs. After the son who was supposed to take over the company died in 1893, August Terletzki handed it over to his former student Eduard Wittek , who owned it as the August Terletzki organ building company, Elbing, owner Ed. Wittek continued. Up to then there had been around 130 new organs and repairs. August Terletzki supported the company with his advice until his death in 1901.
