August Viereck

August Viereck (born April 4, 1825 in Parchim , † March 6, 1865 in Güstrow ) was a German portrait painter.

Life

August Viereck studied from 1840 to 1848 at the Art Academy in Dresden as a student of Professors Arnold , Eduard Bendemann and Ludwig Richter . From 1856 to 1861 he stayed in Rome in the circle of the German Romans . Afterwards he worked as a portrait painter again in Mecklenburg , especially in Ludwigslust and Güstrow . He is known for his portraits of middle-class families in Mecklenburg. His works hang, for example, in the Güstrow City Museum , such as the portraits of the lawyer Franz Gottlieb Johann Diederich and his wife, a daughter of the landowner Heinrich von Müller from Groß Lunow. He also became known as a history painter, for example his painting Luther on the way to Worms from around 1860 hangs in the German Historical Museum in Berlin.
