August Weimer (born June 27, 1908 in Bingen , † January 20, 1980 in Wiesbaden ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending primary school in Cologne , Weimer completed an apprenticeship as a painter in 1922, which he completed in 1925 with the assistant examination. From 1925 to 1930 he worked as a painter's assistant in Cologne and from 1930 to 1933 he worked as a secretary for the Christian trade unions in Cologne and Breslau . After the National Socialists came to power, he had to give up his union activities. He then worked as a painter's assistant in Breslau, where he passed the master's examination in 1936. From 1936 to 1939 and again from 1941 to 1945 he worked as an independent master painter in Breslau. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1939 and participated in World War II as a soldier before he was dismissed as unfit for service in 1941. In 1945 he was called up again for military service. Most recently he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was released in 1948.

Weimer worked as a legal secretary at the DGB in Wiesbaden from 1949 , was active as managing director of IG Bau-Steine-Erden from 1952 and was elected to the main board of the union in 1960. In addition, he was a member of the board of directors of the State Insurance Company Hessen , board member of AOK Wiesbaden and since 1960 member of the board of directors of the Federal Agency for Employment and Unemployment Insurance . He also worked as a regional labor judge in Frankfurt am Main and as a federal labor judge in Kassel . In addition, he worked as a lecturer at the Christian Social School in Wiesbaden.

Political party

Weimer joined the Windthorstbund in 1925 and had been a member of the Center Party since 1928 . In 1948 he joined the CDU. In 1948/49 he was the district manager of the Christian Democrats in the Oberlahn district and in Usingen .

MP

Weimer was a council member of the city of Wiesbaden since 1956. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1961 and again from 1965 to 1969. In both electoral terms he entered parliament via the Hesse state list.
