August Wilhelm Julius Ahlborn
August Wilhelm Julius Ahlborn (born October 11, 1796 in Hanover , † August 24, 1857 in Rome ) was a German landscape painter of the 19th century.
Live and act
Ahlborn was the son of the Hanoverian master tailor Christian Heinrich Ahlborn and Dorothea Elisabeth Röllecke. He went through an unsatisfactory five-year apprenticeship with a carpenter. He then stayed in Braunschweig and took up residence in Berlin in 1816. There he married Therese, daughter of Oberbergrates Martin, in December 1832 . The marriage remained childless. Ahlborn entered the Academy of Arts (Berlin) in 1819 . Here he studied from 1822 with Karl Wilhelm Wach . In 1826 he received a prize from the academy for the portrait of the New Palace in Potsdam and was able to use the money to travel to Italy. In 1833 he became a member of the academy. In 1827 he went to Italy. Here he was one of the co-founders of the Roman Art Association. He lived in Rome , Florence and Ascoli . In Italy , Ahlborn converted to Roman Catholicism on August 15, 1837, together with his wife . His pictures mainly show Italian, North German and Tyrolean landscapes, but also some religious works. Many of his works went into the possession of the royal family of Prussia.
