August von Stralenheim

Carl Wilhelm August Freiherr von Stralenheim (born August 17, 1777 in Imbshausen , today a district of Northeim ; † May 19, 1847 in Hanover) was a lawyer, Minister of State of the Kingdom of Hanover and curator of the Georg August University in Göttingen .

Life

Stralenheim came from the Swedish-German noble family Stralenheim (Swedish baron class 1696). His father was the chief forester Adolf Freiherr von Stralenheim. August von Stralenheim studied law in Göttingen from 1792 to 1795 and became an auditor at the Hanover Justice Chancellery in 1796 and court advisor in Hanover as early as 1799. From 1805 to 1813 he was a judge (Oberappellationsrat) at the Higher Appeal Court in Celle , chosen by the Verdensche landscape. With the restoration of the Kingdom of Hanover in 1813, Stralenheim was sent to Osnabrück as a commissioner to take possession of and organize the newly acquired area. In 1817 he was appointed director of the law office in Göttingen . As early as 1819 he went back to the Higher Appeal Court and became its vice-president, and in 1820 president. After the death of Minister Claus von der Betten , Stralenheim became Minister of State and Cabinet in 1828 for the two departments of Justice and Culture as well as curator of the University of Göttingen (the latter together with Karl Friedrich von Arnswaldt until 1838 ). He held these offices until his death in 1847. The main focus of his work as a minister was on teaching administration. In the area of ​​justice administration, Stralenheim was unable to achieve any lasting effect.

Since 1818 he was an honorary doctor of the Faculty of Law in Göttingen and since 1830 a member of the Societät der Wissenschaften in Göttingen .

Honors

On September 17, 1837, the city of Göttingen conferred honorary citizenship on Strahlheim. He was the eleventh person to receive this honor.
