Claus from the ceiling (also: Klaus von der ceiling ; born January 5, 1742 in Rittershausen , † July 10, 1826 in Hanover ) was a German lawyer and Hanoverian state and cabinet minister .

Life

His parents were Drost and District Administrator Klaus Benedikt von der Betten (1704–1775) and Sophie Julia (1715–1749), a daughter of Benedix Georg Bremer (1686–1754).

Klaus von der Betten studied in Kiel, Helmstedt and in 1763 Göttingen; in Göttingen he is proven as a member of the student order Amicitia et Concordia . After a career in Stade (from 1764 to 1772 in the judicial service), von derdecke initially became curator of the University of Göttingen .

In 1779 he married Wilhelmine Charlotte Juliane Sophie von Hanstein (1757–1798). In September 1798 Wilhelmine had a stillborn daughter, the tenth child. The mother died shortly afterwards in October.

Her son Friedrich von der Betten , the Hanover government councilor, was elected to the Mecklenburg parliament .

Her grandchildren were Julius von der Blanket at Gut Melkof and his brother Carl Claus von der Blanket der Afrikaforscher .

In 1798 Claus von der Betten became second honorary citizen of Hanover for his services in the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg

In 1800 the future minister married Juliane Philipine von Eickstedt -Peterswaldt (1742-1824) for the second time .

1803 was made by the ceiling Minister of the Elector of Braunschweig-Lüneburg , Georg III. , later King of Hanover . In the state government he headed the Brem- and Verdensche , Hadelnsche , Lauenburg and Bentheimsche departments (1776 to 1807 and 1813 to 1823), which was responsible for the imperial estates that were not incorporated but ruled in personal union with Hanover . He was allegedly critical of the Restoration policy that fell during his term of office , but did not advocate any other.

In 1819 the minister purchased the Melkof estate near Vellahn in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg . The minister bought the farms in the neighboring villages of Langenheide (south of Melkof) and Jesow (north of Melkof) at the same time.

The minister owned other farms in Kehdingen : Rittershausen , Feldhof , Drochtersen , Wischhof and near Ratzeburg west of today's Elbe-Lübeck Canal : Klein Berkenthin .

In 1852, as heir and grandson of the minister , the Africa explorer Carl Claus von der Betten received the Eickhof estate near Liebenau in the Nienburg / Weser district as a promised endowment in 1817 . The heirs of the Africa explorer sold the Eickhof estate to the von Kalm family in 1869. In 1900 it was passed on to the v. Eickhof called Reitzenstein sold. Eickhof Castle in the Eickhof Forest has been a Zen monastery since 2006 .
