List of members of the Mecklenburg Assembly of Representatives

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of members of the Mecklenburg Representative Assembly listed in the Revolution in Mecklenburg elected representatives. According to the electoral law of July 15, 1848, 85 constituencies were elected in Mecklenburg-Schwerin , in Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 15 constituencies in the heartland of Mecklenburg-Stargard and three constituencies in the western exclave of the Principality of Ratzeburg . First electors were elected. The electors decided on the composition of the Chamber of Deputies on October 3, 1848 in Schwerin and on October 9 in Strelitz. The candidates could run in several constituencies and many were then elected in several constituencies at the same time. In order to be able to occupy all constituencies, by-elections were therefore necessary. The brief experiment on democracy cost some Mecklenburgers their existence in the reaction era. Forced to emigrate to the United States , they became known there as the Forty-Eighters . Friedrich Franz II. (Mecklenburg) dissolved the assembly of representatives on August 22, 1849.

House of Representatives

After the political "purges" of 1849, another election for the Mecklenburg House of Representatives was held in 1850 in Mecklenburg-Schwerin . After its dissolution, the “experiment” of democracy in Mecklenburg was initially over. It was not until the November Revolution of 1918, with the ensuing elections to the state parliaments of the now Mecklenburg Free States, that there was a change in status.
