Eduard Haupt

Eduard Theodor Haupt (born September 22, 1805 in Wismar ; † June 1, 1868 ibid) was a German theologian and member of the Frankfurt National Assembly .

Life

Eduard Haupt was born in 1805 as the son of the senator and city counsel Gabriel Haupt. He attended the large city school Wismar and studied in Tübingen and from November 1825 in Rostock Protestant theology. In Tübingen he became a member of the Old Tübingen Burschenschaft (later Germania Tübingen ) in 1823 . After his studies he was tutor in the house of Baron Detloff von Storch in Diestelow near Goldberg until 1831 . In 1831 he became a collaborator and in 1834 a full-time teacher at the Große Stadtschule Wismar , of which he was rector from 1863 until his death in 1868. He reformed the Great City School and converted it into a modern high school.

In 1848 he was elected chairman of the Wismar Reform Association.

Haupt was elected to the National Assembly for the 2nd constituency (Wismar) of Mecklenburg-Schwerin , to which he belonged from May 18, 1848 to January 26, 1849. Then his successor candidate Hellmuth Wöhler took over the mandate. Haupt remained non-attached in the National Assembly, but voted with the Right Center. In regular reports to the Wismarsche Zeitung he gave a public account of his parliamentary activities. Haupt was also active as a political writer and contributed with essays in the political discussion of the Vormärz, especially in the Schweriner Freimüthigen Abendblatt and with the appeal to the men of law on questions of creating a new constitution for Mecklenburg.

Haupt returned to Mecklenburg and became a member of the Mecklenburg Constituent Assembly, to which he belonged from January 30, 1849 as the successor to Hermann Gustav Fabricius .

Eduard Haupt's grandfather, Christian Haupt , was superintendent of the Marienkirche in Wismar . His father, Gabriel Haupt , was a town counsel and senator. His older brother Anton Haupt (the elder) and his nephew of the same name, Anton Haupt (the younger) , were mayors of Wismar.
