Live and act

He was the son of the lawyer Christoph Schmidt called Phiseldeck (1740-1801). The family was raised to hereditary nobility in 1789 . Justus von Schmidt-Phiseldeck studied in Helmstedt also like his father Jura and entered 1795 in the Brunswick civil service. In 1799 he became consistorial, border and feudal councilor as well as archivist, 1806 secret secretary in the ministry and then entered the service of the newly founded Kingdom of Westphalia . In 1808 he was judge of appeal in Kassel , in 1809 a state councilor, in 1810 at the same time director general of indirect taxes and, after the restoration of the Duchy of Braunschweig, in 1814 a member of the college of the privy council. He took part in the Congress of Vienna as envoy of Duke Friedrich Wilhelm until 1815 and after his death on June 16, 1815 in the Battle of Quatre-Bras, he was entrusted with the main management of state affairs by the Prince-Regent of England. However, his behavior brought on the hatred of the underage Duke Charles II , who threatened him with arrest three years after taking office in 1826 for refusing to hand over his correspondence with the King of England. Schmidt-Phiseldeck went to Hanover , where he became head of the Justice Department and, in 1832, Landdrost in Hildesheim . But he returned home in 1840.
