Otto Albrecht von Düring (born January 10, 1807 in Harsefeld , † April 11, 1875 in Celle ) was a German judge and Minister of Justice in the Kingdom of Hanover .

origin

His grandfather was the Hanoverian Major General Georg Albrecht von Düring (1728–1801). His parents were the Hanoverian state councilor and captain in Meinersen Carl Johann Georg von Düring (* April 10, 1773, † September 10, 1842) and his first wife Louise Sophie von Borries (1774-1817).

Life

As the son of Captain von Meinersen , Düring studied law in Göttingen from 1824 after graduating from high school in Holzminden . In the same year he became a member of the Corps Bremensia .

First employed in his father's office in 1828, Düring was a judge in Stade from 1829 to 1839 .

In 1833 he was elected to the first chamber of the Hanoverian Estates Assembly for the knighthood of the Duchy of Bremen . He participated in the preparation of the most important judicial laws (Criminal Code 1840, Civil Proceedings Code 1847). In 1847 King Ernst August I appointed a member of the Higher Appeal Court in Celle, and in 1848 Düring was appointed Minister of Justice in Hanover. In his personnel selection he took no political considerations. So the "Prussian" Adolf Leonhardt and the Rhinelander Friedrich Oppenhoff were won over to collaborate, which helped to establish the fame of Hanover's judicial legislation. Many reform laws (jury courts) only came into force after the resignation of the Stüve Ministry in November 1850.

After his dismissal as a minister at the Higher Appeal Court in Celle, Düring finally became President (1859) of the highest Hanover court. After retiring, Excellence devoted himself particularly to particular law .

family

In 1842 in Stade, he married Elisabeth Karoline Stromeyer (1822–1879), a daughter of the member of the State Council, office director of the law firm in Göttingen and government representative at the University of Göttingen Friedrich Andreas Stromeyer (1788–1846) and Caroline Lappenberg (sister of the historian Johann Martin Lappenberg ). The couple had a daughter: Helene Karoline Sophie (born February 11, 1846, † August 26, 1871)
