Augustin-Gabriel d'Aboville
Augustin-Gabriel Baron d'Aboville , (born March 20, 1773 in La Fère (Aisne) , † August 15, 1820 in Paris ) was a French général de brigade . He was the older brother of Augustin-Marie d'Aboville .
Life
He began his career on May 22, 1789 as a sous-lieutenant in the "7 e régiment d'artillerie à pied" (7th foot artillery regiment). From 1 September 1789 he attended the artillery school in La Fere , February 6, 1792 to lieutenant and 1 November of the same year Captaine transported.
He took part in the Battle of Courtrai , the Saar and Rhine crossings, then fought in front of Trier , in Steisiegen and in 1799 in the Battle of Stockach . His services led to his promotion to colonel and appointment to artillery commander of the Mainz fortress . During the campaign of 1800 in Italy, he served as chief of the artillery of the Division of General Oudinot used and participated in the Battle of the Mincio part. On his return to Paris, he took on the role of deputy director and member of the Central Committee. During this time he was sent to Vlissingen to put the island and Zeeland in a state of defense.
He was sent to Portugal with Junot in 1807 and distinguished himself in the passage of the Tagus , the capture of Evora and the battle of Vimeiro . After the surrender of Cintra , he briefly returned to France in 1808. He took part in the Battle of Betanzos and the Battle of La Coruña as well as in the defense of Tuy . After his return from Spain he was promoted to Général de brigade on May 14, 1809. His artillery proved its worth in the battle of Talavera and the siege of Cadiz , where he was able to shoot Fort Matagorda ready for attack. On June 23, 1810 he was appointed officer of the Legion of Honor and on October 26 of the same year replaced General de Senarmont , who had fallen in front of Cádiz , at the head of the artillery. At the Battle of Chiclana his artillery temporarily stopped the advance of an entire English division.
On February 20, 1812, he was appointed Baron of the Empire and on January 24, 1813, General Director of the Artillery of French troops in Spain and Portugal. During the Battle of Vitoria , almost all of its artillery park fell into the hands of English troops.
In 1815 he was part of the Deputation of the North, which King Louis XVIII. received in Calais . He was appointed Chevalier de Saint-Louis and on December 1, 1817, succeeded his father as Count and Pair de France .
