Augustin Farah

Augustin Farah (born May 4, 1910 in Kara , Lebanon , † March 31, 1983 ) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church .

Church career

He was ordained a priest on September 8, 1937 .

Farah was called Bishop of Tripoli on March 7, 1971 . He was ordained bishop on June 18, 1961 by the Patriarch of Antioch Maximos IV. Sayegh SMSP , assisted by the Archbishops Philippe Nabaa of Beirut and Jbeil and Athanase Ach-Chear BC of Banyas as co-consecrators . When the Diocese of Tripoli was elevated to archdiocese , he received the title of Archbishop on November 18, 1964. Between 1962 and 1965 he was a participant in all sessions of the Second Vatican Council . In 1965 he was briefly Apostolic Administrator of the Patriarchal Vicariate for Jerusalem in the Melkite Patriarchate of Antioch . On August 25, 1977, he took over, as the successor to Jean Bassoul , the Archeparchy Zahlé and Furzol and headed it until his death on March 31, 1983. His successor was André Haddad BS.
