Jean Bassoul

Jean Bassoul BS (also John Bassoul ; born May 7, 1920 in Maghduscha , Lebanon , † August 9, 1977 ) was an archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church . On July 11, 1943, he was ordained a priest of the Melkite Basilians from the Most Holy Redeemer ( order abbreviation : BS).

In 1960 he took over the Melkite parish of Roslindale near Boston , Massachusetts as Archimandrite . The parish belongs to the Newton Eparchy and is also the seat of the Bishop of Melkite Christians in the USA . During his short tenure as pastor and pastor , he was instrumental in planning the construction of the Annunciation Melkite Catholic Cathedral in Roslindale. After being ordained bishop, John Adel Elya BS took over the parish in 1962 .

Subsequently, Bossoul took over the episcopal see of the Archeparchy Zahlé and Furzol in Lebanon until his death on August 9, 1977 . He was succeeded in this office by Augustin Farah . Archbishop Bassoul attended all sessions of the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . As co-consecrator he assisted Archbishop Habib Bacha of Beirut and Jbeil .
