Aurelio Cestari

Aurelio Cestari (born June 16, 1934 in Saletto ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Athletic career

As an amateur , Cestari won the Tour of Slovakia in 1956 and the internationally strong one-day race Grand Premio della Liberazione . Before that, he was at the start of the International Peace Tour in May , which he finished as the best Italian in sixth. He wore the leader's yellow jersey for two stages. Cestari was nominated by the Italian Federation for the Summer Olympics in Melbourne and was 34th in the road race ; with the Italian team he was fourth in the team classification . In the same year he became a professional driver in the Torpado-Ursus team , which also included Nino Defilippis . He remained a professional until 1963 . His debut in the professional profession was successful with victory at the Giro dell'Appennino in 1957. After that, he was able to record two stage wins on the Tour of Portugal in 1961 for his list of successes. In total, he achieved five victories as a professional. In 1959 (38th place) and 1962 (41st place) he rode the Tour de France . At the Giro d'Italia in 1959 he retired, in 1960 he was classified 23rd.
