The Schallautzergraben , also Schallautzer Graben , is a brook in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna . It is a feeder of the Grünauer Bach .

The Schallautzergraben has a length of 1275 m with a height difference of 144 m. Its catchment area is 0.6 km². The stream runs through the Lainzer Tiergarten nature reserve . Like the Veitlissengraben, it rises south of the Hagenberg and flows from there towards the northwest. It passes under the Schallautzerbrücke in Stegtorstrasse, a 7 m long and 4 m wide stone road bridge. The Schallautzergraben flows below the Grünauer pond on the right into the Grünauer Bach .

history

Hermes Schallautzer (1503–1561) was Vienna's mayor and fortress builder. The name Schallautzergraben indicates that he owned property here.

The Schallautzer Bridge was built in 1940.
