course

Grünau pond

The Grünauer Bach has a length of 3250 m with a height difference of 150 m. Its catchment area is 2.8 km².

The near-natural forest stream rises near the Rohrhaus rest house and flows north through the Lainzer Tiergarten . It runs through the Grünauer pond and behind it takes on the Schallautzergraben on the right. Outside the wall of the Lainzer Tiergarten, the Grünauer Bach crosses under the Wientalstrasse and flows into the Wien River in the Auhof retention basin in Hütteldorf .

There is no risk of flooding at the Grünauer Bach. In the event of a flood of the century , neither the infrastructure nor the resident population are affected.

history

The mouth of the Grünauer Bach was subject to constant changes before 1825. Depending on the course of the still unregulated Vienna River, the 200 m long lower course of the brook shifted frequently. The Grünauer Teich goes back to the construction of dams at the end of the 18th century and developed by 1875. The lower course of the Grünauer Bach was regulated from 1895 and 1899 during the construction of the Auhof retention basin. The retention basin was renatured in 1995 and 2001.

ecology

The stream serves as spawning grounds for toads ( Bufo bufo ), yellow-bellied toads ( Bombina variegata ), grass frogs ( Rana temporaria ) and Spring frogs ( Rana dalmatina ). Wild boars use boggy places as wallows .

Black alder , ash and alluvial forests grow along the Grünauer Bach . Roots and accumulations of dead wood mean that the stream bed is stepped in some places.

bridges

The Grünauer Bach is crossed by the following bridges, lined up in the direction of flow:

  • Wegschüttbrücke: The 10 m long and 4 m wide stone road bridge on Stegtorstraße was built in 1940.
  • Grünauer Bridge: The 11 m long and 8 m wide reinforced concrete road bridge on Hofjagdstraße was built in 1969.
  • Grünauerbach Bridge: The 9 m long and 26 m wide reinforced concrete road bridge on Wientalstraße was built in 1967.
