Barhöft observation tower
The Barhöft observation tower is a more than 17 m high observation tower in Barhöft , a district of the municipality of Klausdorf in the Vorpommern-Rügen district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
Geographical location and accessibility
The observation tower is in a wooded area in the northern part of the district ( 21 m above sea level ) and can be reached from the south via an access road. Coming from the north-west, the natural path, the Bockweg , leads past the tower in a south-easterly direction.
description
The four-storey tower was essentially made of reddish brick , it has an internal staircase and an external steel staircase, which was added for civil use at a later date. The platform is located at a height of 16.9 m above the ground and can be entered against entry.
history
In 1963 a previous building already existed, which was replaced by a successor building in 1986 by the building yard in Richtenberg . The 6th Coastal Border Brigade used the structure for visual border surveillance. After the fall of the Wall , the building stood empty for a few years until the municipality of Klausdorf decided to convert it. The outside staircase with 102 steps was also created, via which the platform can be reached at around 38 meters above sea level. In addition to own funds, funding from the EU's LEADER project was also used. The reopening took place on October 22, 2004. 2006 opened the civil registry Altenpleen in the tower room a branch in which for the first time on 5 October 2006 a pair of trust . At the foot of the tower there is a national park exhibition of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park .
Opportunities for viewing
From the viewing platform , the view extends over the national park. To the north is the island of Bock , behind it the Baltic Sea and the highlands of Hiddensee and the island of Rügen .
