The Morgenleithe is a mountain with a double peak in the Saxon Ore Mountains at 811.6  m above sea level. Above sea level.

geography

The mountain is located in the area of ​​the city of Lauter-Bernsbach on the municipal borders with Schwarzenberg and Bockau directly on the European long-distance hiking trail E3 and on the mountain hiking trail Eisenach-Budapest .

Origin of the name

The name of Morgenleithe is derived, like other place names in the Ore Mountains, from the ending -leite for slope, which slopes particularly steeply to the east or morning .

tourism

Morgenleithe is a popular hiking destination with a tower built in 1922, which was consecrated by the dialect poet and mayor Bruno Herrmann (1870–1927). In 1933 a mountain restaurant was built. The observation tower was raised to 18 m in 1955.
The distant view from the tower is now severely restricted by dense forest.
