The women's singles at the Australian Championships in 1948 was a tennis competition in Melbourne .

Last year's winner was Nancye Bolton , who again reached the final and prevailed against Marie Toomey 6: 3 and 6: 1. For Bolton it was the fifth title at the Australian Championships after 1937 , 1940 , 1946 and 1947 .
