The winner of the tournament was for the third time after 1936 and 1940 the Australian Adrian Quist , who in the final matched his top-seeded compatriot and last year's finalist John Bromwich in five sets (6: 4, 3: 6, 6: 3, 2: 6, 6: 3) could defeat.
