Henry Christian Harry Hopman (born August 12, 1906 in Glebe near Sydney , † December 27, 1985 ) was an Australian tennis player .

Life

Between 1930 and 1939 he won seven Grand Slam tournaments in doubles and mixed games . But he was more successful as the Davis Cup captain. He led Australia to a total of sixteen successes between 1939 and 1967, making him the most successful team captain ever.

His first wife was the Australian tennis player Nell Hall Hopman . On February 13, 1934, he became engaged to her, the wedding took place on March 19, 1934 in Sydney .

The Hopman Cup , a mixed tennis event, was named after him.
